Hi All,

First time posting here.

Final round of the KBRL Nitro Series here in Arizona was completed yesterday. I was not able to make all the series races and this was my 3rd out of 8 races. This was my second race with the Clockwork Racing Werks B5 in my Mugen MBX6T. The first was The Nitro Challenge at The Nitro Pit 3 weeks ago where I qualified 5th in the 40+ Amain and finished 6th after a rock got stuck in the flywheel.

Without touching the engine from three weeks ago, I was able to fire her right up and TQ Open Truck in the first round with a 12 lap 7:00.743 with a fastest lap of 33.832. I came in with a 1/4 of a tank left. This track, although smaller, you are on power a lot, much different than The Nitro Challenge where lap times were 47-50 seconds but it was more about timing and making and landing jumps perfectly. In comparison, TNC, I came in with just a little under 1/2 tank left.

With the first heat of open truck done in the second round and my TQ still holding up, I decided to go after track a little harder. I leaned out the top end an hour to give me a little more pep in the short shoots. I was immediately on pace to a 13 lap 7:21.9 but a tangle with a slower truck dropped me back to a 12 lap 7:16.9. From there I started my way back to my first round TQ times and on lap 11 I was on pace to a 12 lap 7:01 so I pushed it to try to make a 13 lap quali and made a mistake and ended with a 12 lap 7:12.9. My fast lap in was 32.9. My TQ from the first round was still intact for the A main.

Sun was starting to go down for the main and I thought about re-tuning but decided not to. Starting out front, gave me a clear run the first turn and made the best out of it and did not get tangled up in the first turn debacles. With the engine running flawlessly, I was able to turn good fast consistent laps and pulled away from the field. I decided to pit a the 7/14 minute mark of the 20 minute main in-lieu of a full 10 minutes like I did at TNC. I eventually went to win the main and giving me my first win with the CRE engine.

The CRE B5 was the best break in engine I have had. It idled perfectly from the start, it never flamed out on me and have helped elevated my performance on track. I was not a CRE driver prior to getting my first engine, but my recent experience with the ease of break in, tuning and gobs of power made me want to be. I will be running a CRE B6 in my Serpent buggy soon and hope to get the results that I have seen with the truck.

Sorry for being long winded.
Thanks Neal and John.

That's Keith Barnes with the orange Mugen finishing 3rd overall with another CRE B5. I got 9th overall in int. Buggy running mostly the CRE B5 in my Agama. I didn't race it for the finals as it had just got a pinch from Lance and I didn't have time to break it in. Great engines for sure.

yes  Congrats guys!

Another first outing:

Our first night race here at The Nitro Pit was last night. It was cool to see Ryan Maifield, Billy Fischer, Tanner Denny and Chris Wheeler all factory drivers here. The track has not changed since The Nitro Challenge so we are able to compare lap times. Since I run the races here at The Pit, it is rare for me to race. Fortunately, I was able to last night because Brian was able to step in and announce my race. I race in the Open class. Once I knew I was able to race, I decided to drop in the new Clocked Werks B6 in my Serpent. I got to the track and started the break in process with 1 tank on the box. The next tank putting around the track and one more tank on the box as I needed to get the race program going. Yep, that was my break in period prior to my qualifier. I love these engines, it started right up on the bump box, I turned up the idle and an hour in on both top and bottom and she purred like a kitten.

1st qualifier- nothing special here as I was right up to speed just putting around with no more than 50% at any time. If you raced at the Challenge, there really isn't anywhere you need to go full throttle as it is all about bottom end to hit those jumps. Nonetheless, the CRE B6 didn't have any problems on it's 4th tank. I bobbled the first two laps, but still managed to 2nd in the Qauli.

2nd quali- I knew I had the speed to take TQ so I was amped to run. Unfortunately, I flamed out twice in the first lap. I brought it in and turned up the idle screw and went back out and had no issues and turning the fastest lap of the heat.

20 minute A Main- I would start out 2nd and kept it clean sitting right behind TQ Brandon Akiyama (KBRL champion) through the 7 pack. At the end of the 7 pack he made a mistake and I would take the lead from there on. I would eventually go on to win by 1 1/2 laps.

It was a good outting for the CRE engine. I am now running a CRE B6 in buggy and CRE B5 in my truck. Now I just need to race some more..............

Thanks Neal and John for a great product!!!!
